Preschool

Expansion

We have finally passed all of our inspections and have moved the majority of the things down to the lower level.  We are still rearranging furniture as we explore our new space. However, we are very excited to be downstairs, as are the children!!!

Notices & Reminders

*****GOODBYE TO ZANDER****

This is Zander’s last week at Advantage Preschool, as he and his family are moving back to Ohio this month.  They will be missed, but we wish them the best of luck in their new endeavors and will keep them in our prayers!

***VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY***

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on 2-12-10, with a little party and exchanging Valentine’s that we made in school.  Valentine’s Day will be our theme throughout the entire next week.

***VISITORS***

My parents will be visiting the rest of this week and next, to help with the arrival of the newborn baby.

***ILLNESS PRECAUTIONS***

We’ve been working really hard here at school to teach the children to cover their coughs, use tissues, and keep their fingers out of their noses. Please help them do the same at home!!!

***We will be CLOSED:***

The last two weeks in February: 2/15-2/26

Advantage Preschool is now on Facebook. Check out our photos, updated monthly, on Facebook. You can also find some pictures on our website under The Parent’s Corner!

Recent Highlights

Miss Harling (Miss Amber) and Miss B. (Miss Katie) have taken over the majority of the teaching at this point. They are both here on a full-time basis, so that when the time arrives for the baby to make his appearance, it will be as smooth a transition as possible.

We have initiated a “Theme” each week, although some themes coming up we have extended for two weeks. We are also doing a “Bible Theme” each week as well. It has worked out nicely so far and the children seem to enjoy this added feature of the program.

Last week’s theme was Community Helpers, and the children learned about all the different community helpers that we have, such as police officers, doctors, nurses, mail carriers, etc.  They have had fun trying on the different hats as well as the different dramatic play costumes that we have for each type of community helper. We pulled out the Firehouse, Hospital, and Police Station to be used on the train table, with the vehicles and figurines for each, and we have been reading a lot of stories to go along with our themes.  You should also have received a letter from your child in the mail, as we did a lesson on the post office and what happens to the mail once it goes in the mailbox. Last week’s Bible Theme was the Good Samaritan, and the children learned what it means to be a good neighbor to someone in need, and especially loved the activity of “bandaging” up the hurt person with real band-aids.

This week our theme is Transportation and Ways to Pray to God. Help your child at home extend their learning by asking questions and discussing the themes each week. Also, don’t forget to review the Letter of the Week, and other skills, such as color recognition, shapes, number recognition, and counting. There are so many creative ways to incorporate these things into everyday living, and riding in the car, or waiting in line, is always a great place to find the time to play “I spy” and look for letters, shapes, numbers, and colors!
